Mr. Swanson joined NIST/ATP in February 2005. David Swanson is a General Business Specialist in the ATP Information Technology and Electronics Office (ITEO). Mr. Swanson has over 20 years of experience in new technology start-up ventures, acquisitions, join ventures, capital acquisition, product development and new product introductions.

Mr. Swanson worked in the private sector throughout his career. David comes to ATP after serving as Director of Program Management for AirPrime, Inc. (Purchased by Sierra Wireless, Inc), a CDMA based wireless consumer products venture where he drove the development, certification and introduction of OEM voice and data modems for Hand Spring, Palm, HP and Compaq's Personal Digital Assistants (PDA's) and Korea's KTF CDMA handsets. David held the position of Director of Worldwide Marketing for Castlewood Systems, Inc., a Silicon Valley GMR removable media disc drive start-up venture where he acquired venture capital sources via OEM channels, vendors and private investors, managed worldwide marketing and new product introductions. Mr. Swanson was Founder and Principle of Smith/Norris Corporation, a Public Sector Client/Server based, workflow and imaging automation systems development venture. Here, Mr. Swanson sourced the business capital, defined and developed the market for PC based distributed relational databases and electronic work flow automation for City, County and State agencies' public records systems. Mr. Swanson has extensive engineering background in continuous flow manufacturing processes while employed with Procter & Gamble Company, Measurex-Honeywell and the start-up Impact Systems, Inc. (where he participated in the successful IPO process), David has justified, developed, implemented and validated leading edge real-time process measurement sensors and control actuators for pilot plant and large scale pulp and paper production environments.

Mr. Swanson received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (B.S.I.E.) from Iowa State University .
