ATTRACTIONSTidewater and Hampton Roads Region

Hampton University is located close to some of the most sought after attractions in the Tidewater and Hampton Roads region of Virginia, the birthplace of English-speaking America—Williamsburg, Norfolk, and Virgnia Beach.

  • Explore the Williamsburg Historic district, where the modern concept of Democracy now used throughout the world orginiated.
  • Learn about military life and heritage with a visit to the Hampton Roads Naval Museum at Nauticus, the National Maritime Center, and the Douglas MacArthur Memorial. Then tour the Norfolk Naval Base, the world's largest.
  • Take a short drive to Virginia Beach, the world's largest resort beach. Enjoy over 29 miles of Atlantic Ocean beaches for sailing, surfing, swimming, sunning, fishing and diving and a three-mile-long boardwalk. Come face-to-face with sharks, sea turtles and harbor seals at the Virginia Marine Science Museum. See fighter jets at Oceana Naval Air Station, or view the area from the top of the 1791 Old Cape Henry Lighthouse.
