Designing
for Quality: eHealth Development Workshop
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)/Advanced
Technology Program, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the National
Library of Medicine (NLM), and the Veterans Health Administration
(VHA)
NIST, Gaithersburg, MD
June 24-25, 2003
Purpose:
To help ehealth developers and researchers build on the recent successes
of those who are integrating evidence based health information systems
into service delivery systems.
Take A-Ways:
Workshop participants will leave with a clear vision of:
- the role
of technologies in health care systems designed for quality;
- enabling
technologies required to implement the vision;
- promising
approaches and developments: and
- funding
opportunities
Rationale:
As most of us look around the health care industry, we see increasing
costs, unacceptable errors, dissatisfied patients and providers.
Several leading health care organizations, including the Institute
of Medicine, have recently pointed to evidence based medicine as
a way out of the wilderness. In fact, amidst today's health care
chaos, there are pockets of success stories in which evidence based
ehealth care services are thriving. This workshop is designed to
advance the integration of outcomes research, system design and
information technology. Toward that end, ehealth developers, researchers
and funders will be encouraged to collaborate in advancing the design
and implementation of quality ehealth applications, solutions and
systems.
