Richard Johannes
Dr. Richard
Johannes is Vice President of Clinical Affairs at Cardinal Health-MediQual
in Marlborough, MA, where he leads the research and development
for clinical outcomes and pharmacy information products. MediQual
provides the clinically based risk adjustment outcome metrics
used by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for their statewide public
reporting of acute care hospital performance.
Dr. Johannes
also maintains an appointment in gastroenterology at Brigham and
Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining Cardinal
Health, he was Vice President of Clinical Development at Datamedic
in Waltham, MA where he lead two NIST ATP grants that lead to
the development of the CHARTnote toolset for gastrointestinal
endoscopic reporting. From 1979-1989, Dr. Johannes was a faculty
member in Gastroenterology and Biomedical Engineering at The Johns
Hopkins University School of Medicine.
While at Johns
Hopkins, he was awarded the Dean's Certificate of Excellence in
Teaching and was the recipient of Baker Award for Outstanding
Clinical Care. He was an advisor to Former President Jimmy Carter
and the Carter Foundation on gastrointestinal epidemiology. In
1989, he was appointed as Co-chairman of the Data Acquisition
subcommittee of the Patients and Professionals Committee to the
Institute of Medicine Project on Patient Records. He has over
75 publications in the area of medical informatics, with an emphasis
on data capture through structured note generation.
His education
includes a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin
in 1968, an M.D. in Medicine from The Johns Hopkins University
in 1972, as well as an M.S. in Computer Science from The Johns
Hopkins University in 1986.
