Valerie
Florance, PhD, serves as a program officer with responsibility for
a portfolio of grants including Integrated Advanced Information
Management Systems (IAIMS) grants, information system grants, internet
access to digital libraries grants, and research grants relating
to information studies and human-computer interaction. Before coming
to NLM, Dr. Florance served in various information & library
management roles at the University of Utah, Johns Hopkins, and the
University of Rochester. Immediately prior to joining NLM, she was
principal investigator at the Association of American Medical Colleges
for its national information technology futures initiative, better_health@here.now.
Dr. Florance received graduate training in medical anthropology
at the University of Utah and completed doctoral studies in library
and information sciences at the University of Maryland.
