NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
FOR
FOCUSED PROGRAM COMPETITION
98-04, Digital Video in Information Networks
98-09, Adaptive Learning Systems
March 18, 1998
Dallas, TX
Introduction
The NIST
Advanced Technology Program (ATP) is soliciting
proposals under the following focused program competition and announces
a public meeting (Proposers' Conference) for all interested parties:
98-04,
Digital Video in Information Networks
98-09, Adaptive Learning Systems
On March 18, Program
Managers from the Advanced Technology Program (ATP) of the National Institute
of Standards and Technology (NIST) will be at Infomart facilities in Dallas,
TX to present details to potential bidders for ATP's R&D dollars.
The session will include an overview of the ATP program and detailed suggestions
on how to write a competitive proposal. A breakout session will follow
on these two ATP focused program competitions.
The Adaptive Learning
Systems Focused Program (new for 1998) seeks comprehensive solutions which
recognize that, in order to properly address learner requirements, instructional
technologies must be more flexible and scalable with respect to net-centric,
Web-based instruction. Research funded through this program is expected
to yield significant advances in authoring systems, multi-sensory interfaces,
search technology, instructional system frameworks, and network middleware
(including software reusability and interoperability) as applied to support
diverse training and education tasks. For detailed information on this
program contact Richard Morris at (301) 975-4695. Full proposals are due
on May 13th.
This year, the Digital
Video in Information Networks program increases the emphasis on technologies
to exploit the emerging infrastructure for digital video. Topics of particular
interest this year include advanced compression technologies (such as
MPEG-4 technologies and compressed domain effects), advanced interactive
authoring tools and technologies to extend digital video's applicability.
For detailed information on this program, including additional technical
topics, call David Hermreck at (301) 975-4328. Full proposals are due
on April 22nd.
The conference will
be held on Wednesday, March 18, 1998 and is to begin at 9:30 a.m. local
time at Infomart, Room 5006, 1950 Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, Texas, 75207.
The conference is being coordinated by the Center for Advanced Electronic
Imaging, contact person B. Thomas; tel: 214-746-4666; fax: 214-757-7998;
e-mail: Bithomas@swbell.net.
This meeting will
provide general information regarding the ATP, tips on preparing good
proposals, and an opportunity for audience questions on the scope, technical,
and business goals of the 98-04 and 98-09 focused programs.
Attendance at these
public meetings is not required. No registration fee will be charged,
however, pre-registration is encouraged in order to assure participants
of adequate space. Those wishing to pre-register should contact the conference
coordinator CAEI, contact person B. Thomas; tel: 1-214-746-4666;
fax: 214-757-7998; e-mail: Bithomas@swbell.net
not later than 14 March 1998.
