Introduction
The NIST Advanced
Technology Program (ATP) is soliciting proposals under the following focused
program competition and announces a public meeting (Proposers' Conference)
for all interested parties:

Adaptive Learning Systems
On March 4, Program
Managers from the Advanced Technology Program (ATP) of the National Institute
of Standards and Technology (NIST) will be at NIST facilities in Gaithersburg,
MD to present details to potential bidders for ATP's R&D dollars.
The session will include an overview of the ATP program and detailed suggestions
on how to write a competitive proposal. A breakout session will follow
on this newly announced ATP focused program competition.
The Adaptive Learning
Systems Focused Program (new for 1998) seeks comprehensive solutions which
recognize that, in order to properly address learner requirements, instructional
technologies must be more flexible and scalable with respect to net-centric,
Web-based instruction. Research funded through this program is expected
to yield significant advances in authoring systems, multi-sensory interfaces,
search technology, instructional system frameworks, and network middleware
(including software reusability and interoperability) as applied to support
diverse training and education tasks. Full proposals are due on May 13th.

This meeting will
provide general information regarding the ATP, tips on preparing good
proposals, and an opportunity for audience questions on the scope, technical,
and business goals of this 98-09 focused program. Attendance at these
public meetings is not required. No registration fee will be charged.
