Glenn S. Fields, Manager, Healthcare Systems

Chairman of the Board, HOST Consortium

Mr. Fields is engaged in working with GE Medical Systems, GE Capital Services, and other GE businesses in formulating and developing future GE Healthcare Information System Products and Services. He is a graduate of New Mexico State University (Computer Science) and received his MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. In his current position, Mr. Fields has management oversight of research, technology development, and advanced product development projects, including activities with NIST, U.S. Army TATRC, NLM, DARPA, GE Medical Systems and GE Marquette. Mr. Fields also provides consulting support for GE business development activities. Mr. Fields served as GE's Program Manager on two major NIST ATP initiatives: Healthcare Information Infrastructure Technology (HIIT) (Enterprise Connectivity Solutions) and Healthcare Information Technology Enabling Community Care (HITECC) (Integrated Multimedia Functionality for Radiology).

He is a member of the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR), HIMSS, AMIA, and the IEEE Computer Society. He has been a member of HOST since 1995, and has served as an officer of HOST (Healthcare Open Systems and Trials Consortium) since 1997, including a previous term as Chairman.

Prior to his activities at GE Corporate Research, Mr. Fields managed research and technology development activities for the U.S. intelligence community at GE Aerospace. Prior to his employment at GE, Mr. Fields served in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. intelligence community managing research and development activities, receiving the Defense Meritorious Service Medal in 1988 for his activities at the National Security Agency.

His major research interests are: Picture Archiving and Communications Systems for softcopy diagnostic imagery, Electronic Medical Records, Healthcare Economics and Process Reengineering, Unobtrusive Data Capture, Systems Engineering, Telemedicine, Next-Generation Internet, and Information Security for healthcare systems. He has authored numerous papers and presentations on various aspects of healthcare informatics.
